Description

A bit about myself & the course.

I have been a beekeeper for almost thirty years and at present manage approximately 100 colonies at six locations in County Wicklow. I am a member of; Ashford & District Beekeepers Association, of which I was chairman for 4 years. I prepare and present talks for all levels of the craft of beekeeping from beginners to advanced accompanied by slides and videos. I have been hosting seasonal ‘Open Days’ at my home Apiary in Brittas Bay, on behalf of our association since 1998, where our members are instructed by ‘Hands-On’ demonstrations on how to approach and safely carry out the inspection of bees at the hive. Although beekeeping may not ultimately be for everyone, all my students have taken away a greater knowledge and understanding of how this amazing insect contributes to the maintenance of our ecosystem and the many benefits to humankind, through pollination of our crops and of course the production of delicious honey. If you decide to join us I will do my best to help you take the first steps to becoming a beekeeper.
