  • Certification QQI Level 6 Award in Maintenance Skills Technology
  • Duration One Year

As new technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT) make rapid advancements, smart inter-connected  buildings are becoming the norm. Smart building technologies and management systems, save energy,  streamline facilities management, prevent expensive equipment failures and increase security, comfort  and connectivity. At the most fundamental level, smart buildings deliver enhanced building services  that optimise occupant experiences (e.g. lighting / illumination, thermal comfort, air quality, physical  security, wireless connectivity, multi-media and many more) at the lowest cost and environmental  impact. Realising this goal requires adding intelligence from the beginning of design phase through to  the end of the building’s useful life. Smart buildings use information technologies to connect a variety  of subsystems, which typically operate independently, so that these systems can share information to  optimise total building performance. Smart buildings reach beyond the building equipment within their  four walls. They are inter-connected, responsive to interactive technologies, and interact with building  operators and occupants to empower them with new levels of visibility and actionable information. The  course combines theory with practical application in a real work environment. Participants will become  proficient and comfortable working with computers & advanced technologies, and competent with regard  to the networking and configuration of smart building technologies and maintenance systems. Successful  candidates will acquire a unique set of technology skills that will position them as a highly valuable asset,  with strong jobs prospects in a new sector of the economy that is experiencing rapid growth that will  continue to expand and flourish into the foreseeable future.
