The Medicine Counter Assistant Course (MCA) runs one day per week over a ten week period. It covers all over the counter products and knowledge, patient counselling skills and referral criteria. The course is taught by a qualified practicing pharmacist Sinead Ryan MPSI who has over ten years experience in pharmacy teaching and training. This course would be of interest to anyone interested in knowing more about medicines, like to work in retail pharmacy or already working in a community pharmacy and interested in expanding their knowledge and gain certification. On successful completion of the course the participant gains an industry recognised Certificate of Completion from the Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU)

Each module is accompanied by post session course work and an exam will take place at the end of the course (70% must be achieved). The participations will be provided with all the educational material necessary to accompany the course in addition to comprehensive course notes

The course fee is €500. Please note that the Irish Pharmacy Union IPU MCA Certificate, is one of the approved courses claimable under the Pharmacy Training Grant. Up to €1279 per pharmacy, per year is reimbursable for training from the PCRS under the training grants scheme (information on this grant and the courses included is available from the PCRS 01-8647100)
